random thoughts of a paraplanner

We're hiring a new paraplanner

Don't let the date of this post put you off, we are still looking to add the right people to our team.

We are looking for a new person to join our small but growing team delivering outsourced paraplanning services to a wide range of IFAs and financial planners.  You might currently be a paraplanner, report writer, technical analyst, researcher or even an adviser - we don't mind.  We are looking for someone special and if that's you, we want you in our team.

What you'll be doing

Our clients are all high quality IFAs and financial planners who rely on us to support them and their businesses in a variety of different ways.  Your focus will be on preparing high quality reports and everything that goes with it such as:

  • Defining client objectives
  • Tax calculations
  • Risk profiling
  • Creating solutions and strategies
  • Portfolio research
  • Product research
  • Compliance checks

Being a small company means that you will also be involved in other aspects of our business which include market research, training, due diligence and service propositions.  You will also help with developing our report templates and library to make sure they are always up to date and as good as they can be.

We have built efficient processes to deliver our service and you will be comfortable working with these but also happy coming up with good ideas to make them even better.

You will have good technical knowledge across most areas of the market although we don't get involved with mortgages or group risks.  You will already have good qualifications, be willing to get more (we aim for Chartered and Certified) although we don't expect you to know all the answers, just where to find them.

Most importantly you will be able to think on your feet, be a great problem solver, happy working on your own and take pride in delivering a great service.

We are a small business with big plans and this is a chance for someone to join us as we grow.  For the right person the role could evolve into business/paraplanning manager (or what ever name you like if that's what turns you on) with day to day responsibility for the team and paraplanning service.

Stuff we're upfront about

Being a small team means that we all have to get involved in other administrative activities.  If you are not happy answering the phone, sending out marketing packs, calling Windsor Life to get missing info (again) etc, then this is not the place for you. We work to deadlines, every day, and are looking for someone who thrives in this environment which can be a bit stressful at times.  Depending on your location you may be working from home; there are lots of upsides to this but also some downsides which you must be comfortable with.

Oxfordshire or anywhere

We’re open to hiring the best person no matter where they are. We are based in South Oxfordshire in the middle of an orchard with modern offices filled with contemporary art and there is a desk here waiting for you.  If you're not local, that's fine.  Our company lives in the "cloud" and our team can work from anywhere at any time.

How to apply

Please submit a covering letter explaining:

  1. What you enjoy about being a paraplanner
  2. Why you want to work at Paraplan Plus and not somewhere else.
  3. Why we need you in our team

Also, please attach the following:

  1. An example client report (please don't include any real client details)
  2. Your CV

We offer a flexible work environment and package.  Email everything to office@paraplus.co.uk with "New Paraplanner" in the subject line.  Note: we look favorably on people who get creative with their applications.

Application deadline

There isn't one - we'd prefer to take on someone sooner rather than later but will wait for the right person.
